Summit Entertainment

The Summit Entertainment LLC (formerly Summit Entertainment LP) is an American film studio based in Universal City, California, a subsidiary of Lions Gate Entertainment.

History

Summit was originally founded in 1991 by Bernd Eichinger, Arnon Milchan and Andrew G. Vajna, to be active as a film distributor. 1995 Summit advanced its business in the production and co- financing of films. From 1997, films were also fully funded. Officially started Summit 1993 under the name Summit Entertainment LP as a film production, distribution and sales company in, with Patrick Wachsberger, Bob Hayward and David Garrett as a founder. A first success was the movie American Pie, which Summit sales outside the English-speaking territories.

Summit in 2006 was a fully independent film studio, as Robert G. Friedman, a former manager of Paramount Pictures, took over the management. The new company has been through a financing deal with Merrill Lynch and other investors more than one billion U.S. dollars available to expand development, production, acquisition, marketing and sales.

After a series of flops like P2 - screams in the car park, Penelope and spin Summit was in November 2008 with the release of Twilight - Bis ( s) at the crack of dawn, which grossed worldwide more than 400 million U.S. dollars, recorded a considerable success. Acquisition by Lions Gate Entertainment

In September 2008 takeover talks were held with Lions Gate Entertainment, but no result was achieved. On January 13, 2012 Lionsgate took over for 412.5 million U.S. dollars.
