Summit (meeting)

Under a summit (also summit conference or short " Summit" ) refers to a conference of leading politicians.

While the word at first usually relatively short meetings of only two to four statesmen designated (eg Yalta Conference in Yalta in 1945, Summit Kennedy - Khrushchev in Vienna in 1961 ), it is now also used for larger conferences of government. However, Summit is not an invention of the 20th century, but can be traced to ancient times as a means of politics. For the pre-modern era, they are usually referred to in English as ruler meeting.

In addition to one-off conferences are now increasingly international forums and institutions where there are regular meetings of senior politicians. These include, for example, the annual meeting of the G8, the quarterly meetings of the European Council ( Heads of State and Government of the European Union), or the meetings of intergovernmental organizations like the Arab League, OAS, OPEC or APEC.

Sometimes also referred to meetings of other global decision-makers ( eg from industry ) or a combination of well-known artists.
