Sump (cave)

In caving siphon refers to a under water cave part.

Can be distinguished permanent siphons, where permanent water is available, and temporary siphons that are available only at high water situations underwater.

Parts of the cave, which have only very little air over the water are sometimes referred to as Halbsiphon.

When the cave passage dives at the end of the known air -filled area in the water, one also speaks of Endsiphon. This write-up can be obsolete by further research again when the siphon is overcome ( for example, by a newfound dry bypass or by dive).

Siphons with sinusartigem height profile are marked by an accumulation of coarse sediment in the descending and fine sediment in the ascending branch.
