Sun Language Theory
The Sun Language Theory (Turkish: Güneş Dil teorisi ) was a voice- psychological construct, according to the " primitive man " who was a " Turkish race ". From its Urlauten the Proto Turkish is said to have developed the origin of all languages. The sun language theory was propagated in Turkey in 1935 and was in the years from 1936 to 1938 as state doctrine. It was the beginning and the end of the extreme phase of the Turkish language reforms.
Origin of the Sun Language Theory
The sun language theory goes back to the Serbian scholar Hermann Feodor Kvergić ( 1895-1948/49 ), who received his doctorate in Vienna in 1927. This had the psychology of some elements of the Turkish language made the claim in an unpublished writing, Turkish was the mother of all languages. The astonishment of the prehistoric people of the sun have led to certain Urlauten. In Turkish Kvergić meant to be able to locate these sounds. According to this theory go all languages of the world on the "Proto Turkish " of " primitive man " back.
Policy of Atatürk
It is disputed whether Mustafa Kemal Atatürk believed in the sun language theory or used them as a means to end the Türk Dil Kurumu out by the language purism.
Probably the sun language theory was accepted because Atatürk was not quite satisfied with the language reform and the Türk Dil Kurumu made by the aspirations for language purism. Took one Turkish as mother of all languages , Arabic and Persian words had to be no longer replaced by Turkish words, since in theory the root of these languages was Turkish anyway.
On the initiative of Atatürk, the Sun Language Theory of 1936-1938 was taught as a compulsory subject at the language faculty of the University of Ankara. As a result, we developed grotesque etymologies that would support this theory. Furthermore, the Sun Language Theory served to linguistic hedge the Turkish History Thesis ( Türk Tarih Tezi ), according to which the civilizations of the Hittites and Sumerians were due to the immigration of Turkic groups. The history thesis was gradually abandoned after Atatürk's death in 1938, dropped the sun language theory very suddenly.
