Sun of May

The Sol de Mayo ( German: May sun, also called Inca sun ) is one of the national symbols of countries Argentina and Uruguay. It takes place in the design of the respective national flags and coats of arms use.

The origins of this sun symbol which shows a solar disk with a face, which is surrounded by sun rays are complex. For one, the name is (18th- May 25th), due to the May Revolution in Argentina in 1810, marking the beginning of the independence process of the present-day countries that were summarized at this time as the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata, Spain represented. The actual origin lies in the Inca mythology, where it symbolized the son of Inti the divine creator Viracocha.

The sun used in the Flag of Argentina design case has just 16 and also 16 flaming rays of the sun, which are arranged around them. In the Uruguayan flag on the other hand are located alternately the eight rays.
