Sun Yun-suan

Sun Yun - suan (孙 运 璿Chinese, Pinyin Sun Yunxuan, born 11 November 1913 in Shandong, † 15 February 2006 in Taipei), was a nationalist Chinese engineer and politician.

Life

As Minister for Economic Affairs ( 1969-78 ) and Prime Minister of the Republic of China ( 1978-84 ), he was mainly responsible for the transformation of Taiwan from an agricultural to an export nation.

1934 Sun received his Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from Harbin Polytechnic Institute, he moved in 1945 from China to Taiwan to work for the Taiwan Power Company.

Prior to his work as Minister of Communications ( 1967-69 ) has held various engineering positions Sun. In 1969 he was Minister for Economic Affairs, on 30 May 1978, he became Prime Minister of the Republic of China. He became one of the chief architects of Taiwan's economic miracle in the 1980s. This happened during Sun's term of office by the tens of infrastructure projects, which also included the completion of the Chiang Kai- shek International Airport and the National Sun Yat-sen Expressway.

Sun was highly regarded by Chiang Ching- kuo and was considered his heir, but after a stroke in 1984 ended his political career. Lee Teng- hui was Chiang's heir and successor. Sun's term of office ended on 20 May 1984, he received an honorary position as advisor to the President of the Republic of China. Since then, he was chief adviser on health issues, especially for the prevention of high blood pressure in the elderly.
