Sundaland

As Sunda or Sundaland is called a contiguous land mass that existed during the last ice age. At that time the sea level was lower than today, so that today's islands of Borneo, Sumatra, Java, Palawan and other small islands of Southeast Asia were part of the Asian continent together with hind India. Today, the former low-lying land areas are seas, such as the Java Sea about 80 m deep, covered continental shelf.

Southeast of Sunda was at that time also now no longer existing contiguous land mass Sahul. Both land masses were separated only by narrow straits from each other, so that for example people could cross it by boat. In the southeast, the Wallace line, which indicates the biogeographical transition zone between Asian and Australian flora and fauna runs.
