Sundance Kid

Harry Alonzo Longabaugh (* 1867 in Mont Clare, Pennsylvania; ? † 1908 in Bolivia) was an American outlaw, known as The Sundance Kid ( " The Sundance Kid", in German, the article is often omitted).

His criminal career began with horse theft in Sundance, Wyoming, for which he was sentenced in 1887 to 18 months in prison. In 1892, he stole along with Harry Bass and Bill Madden at Malta, Montana, a train from.

Along with Butch Cassidy, he led from 1896 to a gang ( " The wild bunch " ) soon became known as "The Wild Bunch". Along with other bands had "The Wild Bunch" a shelter at the " Hole-in -the-Wall Pass " in northern Wyoming. The loose association of outlaws was named after the slip angle as the " Hole- in-the -Wall Gang".

After more than a dozen robberies in 1901, he sat down with his girlfriend Etta Place and Cassidy to Argentina from to lead a quiet life there. Etta returned in 1905 back to the States and the two men then began with a rematch of their old criminal career and worked in South America a similar reputation as once in the United States.

Bolivian troops have surrounded both supposedly 1908 in San Vincente. A plaque at the site commemorates the unproven bloody end of the two bandits. 1992 exhumed out the bones of " American Desperados " in that village. Subsequent genetic investigation revealed the beginning of 1993, however, that it is not about Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid in the recovered remains.

Unconfirmed sources indicate that he and Butch allegedly escaped, just as unproven is widespread in some guidebooks version, they were buried in the local cemetery. Some contemporaries had already claimed earlier to have seen the two after the military action. There were also rumors that survived two injured and spent the rest of her life under false names in Uruguay or in the USA. Butch Cassidy's sister Lula Parker Betenson even claimed this had returned and had continued to live in the USA. Finally, there were rumors and documents ( an unconfirmed death certificate ), the Sundance Kid had returned to his girlfriend Etta, they got married and lived until November 21, 1936 under a different name.

The duo was portrayed in a famous movie from 1969: Two bandits with Paul Newman and Robert Redford in the lead roles. Redford named the 1981 Sundance Film Festival after the role he played in this film. Newman 1988 founded the Hole in the Wall Camp, a summer camp for children suffering from leukemia, which is named after the gang, whose prominent members of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid were.
