Sunjong of Korea

Sunjong, the Yunghui - Kaiser ( born March 25, 1874 Changdeokgung, Hanseong, at that time the Korea, South Korea today, † April 25, 1926 in Shōtokyū in Keijo, at that time the Empire of Japan, South Korea today ) was the last emperor of the Korean Empire. He ruled from 20 July 1907 to 29 August 1910.

Rule

Sunjong was the fourth son of King Gojong. After forced by the Japanese General Itō Hirobumi residents abdication of his father in his favor, Crown Prince Yi Cheok as emperor ascended the throne Yunghui. In order to strengthen the acceptance of the new Emperor of the people, to Sunjong went on the advice and, accompanied by the ITO on a tour of the country.

Demise

His crown was passed on to the Japanese Meiji Emperor with the Japanese -Korean annexation treaty of 22 August 1910. After the inclusion of Korea in the Japanese Empire Sunjong was held in Shōtokyū under house arrest, where he died on 25 April 1926.
