Sunnyside Records

Sunnyside Records is an American independent label especially for jazz, which was founded in 1982 by Frenchman François Zalacain (* 1940). Seat is New York City.

Zalacain was in front of his production career with IBM and founded the label to bring out a duo album of his friend pianist Harold Danko. Immediately afterwards followed Kirk Lightsey and Lee Konitz.

The label releases very different jazz styles, but often requisitioned new releases through personal contacts of the represented already in the catalog musicians in New York. In 2003, the album, released by Sunnyside Brazilian duo of singer Luciana Souza was nominated for a Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album. The label also released a lot of European jazz in the USA under license, especially from France ( first label Ryko in 2002 and sub-label of Universal as Owl ). They bring out also for world music and French chansons.

2013 Zalacain was honored with the Grand Prix of the Academie Charles Cros Honorem.
