Sunshine Tour

The Sunshine Tour is an Headquartered in Southern Africa tournament series in the world of professional golf. It is one of the top six tournament series of the International Federation of PGA Tours, based on which the golf world ranking is calculated.

For the longest period of its existence this tour under the name South African Tour or the FNB Tour was known. The new name should allow a geographic expansion, most tournaments are, however, still held in South Africa. In addition, the undistributed prize money by far can not with the others, especially the PGA TOUR and the European Tour, and keep up the leading South African players qualify instead for the two mentioned tournament series. However, most return for a few more highly doped events back to their home country.

The main tournaments of the Sunshine Tour, the South African Open, the Dunhill Championship and the Joburg Open, which include simultaneously to the European Tour, and thus have a stronger game participants. Each season is years across and is completed in late February with a Tour Championship. The 2007/2008 season includes 28 official events, the two first-mentioned major tournaments have an endowment of € 1 million each, the Joburg Open € 1.1 million. The remaining tournaments pour from 350,000 to 2.5 million from South African Rand. Two to three tournaments per month be held, except in July. The peak season in the South African summer, from November to February, includes the more important events. Seen in the tournament series is divided into two half- seasons, early March to October with smaller events, rather for aspiring young professional golfers and mentioned later with renowned South African golfers, but also well-known players from other countries.
