Super Audio CD#DST

Direct Stream Transfer is a Philips developed, lossless data compression method. It is in Part 3 of the MPEG -4 standard, ISO / IEC 14496-3 is described.

Use it finds in the propagated by Sony and Philips Super Audio CD ( SACD). It is used to compress the individual data streams ( Direct Stream Digital) SACD lossless and thus save space on the SACD. In contrast to the lossy compression method (for example, MP3, AAC, Ogg Vorbis ) can thus be recovered unaltered the original data stream.

Thus in the SACD continues there may be a random access, this encoding is frame based. This method such as adaptive prediction and entropy coding are used.

DST achieves a compression rate of up to 50%, which is a very good value for lossless audio data compression.
