Super Bowl III

Super Bowl III, then AFL- NFL Championship Game, was the third edition of the final match of the National Football League ( NFL) and American Football League ( AFL). On January 12, 1969, the Baltimore Colts and the New York Jets were over in Miami, Florida at the Orange Bowl Stadium. Winners were the New York Jets with a final score of 16:7. New York quarterback Joe Namath was voted most valuable player.

Background

Since the NFL had a greater reputation than the AFL and also the skill of the teams and the players in the National Football League bigger than that was considered in the American Football League, the Colts were heavily favored. Joe Namath, quarterback of the Jets, however, predicted victory in the Super Bowl and also said that four quarterbacks the AFL, including himself and his reserve Babe Parilli would be better than the quarterback of the Colts, Earl Morrall.

Super Bowl III is the oldest existing completely on video Super Bowl.

Game History

The first half was up any points on a touchdown the Jets. In the third and last quarter of the Jets turned the kicker Jim Turner, three field goals, which caused the intermediate score of 16:0. With only three minutes remaining time the Colts scored a touchdown, it was ultimately 16:7.
