Super Deformed

As Super Deformed (English, German overly distorted), often abbreviated as SD, is a special form of Japanese cartoon called, are drawn with the characters in extremely distorted way. The important parts of the body for the effect to be increased disproportionately. The corresponding figure is therefore unrealistic shown to enhance the comic effect.

This type of display can still be found in many comics and cartoon animations. The term is also understood as a style element of manga and anime, with the exaggerated emotions or reactions are represented and thus is used most often in humorous scenes.

Distinction to Chibi

Chibi refers more to a certain stature of a figure as a character style. However, the two terms in the current manga / anime lingo, partially used interchangeably.
