Superficial transverse perineal muscle

The musculus transversus superficial perineal ( " superficial transverse perineum muscle ") is a striated muscle of the pelvic floor and perineum ( the perineum ). It originates at the ischial tuberosity ( ischial tuberosity ) and inserts on the central tendon mirror of the pelvic floor and connects there with the muscle of the opposite side. In the neck area it is located in front of the sphincter ani externus and behind the musculus bulbospongiosus. With these two muscles sometimes occur a crossover of muscle fibers.

The variation in the musculus transversus superficial perineal is relatively large, sometimes he is doubly designed, in other cases it is absent altogether. He is Innervated the pudendal nerve, which originates from two to four segments of the cross section of the spinal cord.

The musculus transversus superficial perineal serves to stabilize the pelvic floor.
