Superior laryngeal artery

The superior laryngeal artery ( " upper laryngeal artery " ) - referred to in the animal anatomy as cranial laryngeal artery - is an artery of the neck. It arises from the superior thyroid artery and contracts with the internal branch of the superior laryngeal nerve beneath the muscle thyrohyoid muscle to the larynx, pierced the hyoid laryngeal membrane ( membrana hyothyroidea ) and supplies the upper part of the larynx to the glottis with arterial blood. In artiodactyls it also supplies the anterior part of the thymus.
