Sur Caribe

Sur Caribe is a band from Santiago de Cuba. Its director Ricardo Leyva, who also writes most of the songs himself, joined it in 1987. Rubert La Rosa Abreu plays the piano, Manuel Enrique Grimón Pérez Bass, Juan Francisco Darroman Castellanos Tres, Randy Lester Hechavarria Gorguet the congas, Michel Castellanos Rojas drums, Ángel Díaz Alarcón the timbales, Jorge Enrique Zamora Martínez Güiro, Yumey Zulueta Coello, Yosledi Antonio Carvajal Mesa and René Emilio Alvarez Portuondo the trumpets, Israel Cisneros Rodríguez Castañeda Yosvany Valdés and Yoelis Catasús Torres sing. The Cuban music is also influenced by Caribbean and Latin American rhythms.

After they were still partially classified ( with the hit El poder le las mujeres ) as a poor imitation of Los Van Van at the release of their first album, this assessment changed with Caminando, their well musically aggressive Album ( Hit: La pelota de la suerte ). Añoranza de la conga of their next release (and with Beteligung the Conga Comparsa de Los Hoyos became the most successful song of 2006 in Cuba and launched a wave of Conga crossovers in Cuban popular music.
