Surame

Surame was the capital of Kebbi Empire in the 15th and 16th centuries. The impressive remains of the city are located 40 kilometers north-west of Sokoto in northwestern Nigeria. They consist of an outer and an inner rampart, which is up to seven meters high today. The upper part of the wall is partly made of stacked stones. Within the city walls are the remains of a royal palace, a mosque and individual houses with their small ring walls can be recognized. The outer fortification wall extends over a length of nine kilometers.
