Süreyya Opera House

The Sureyya Opera House ( Turkish Süreyya Operasi ), or Süreyya Cultural Center (Turkish Süreyya Kültür Merkezi ), is an opera house in the Kadıköy district of Istanbul, Turkey.

The building was designed on behalf of Constantinople deputies Süreyya Ilmen from the Armenian- Turkish architect Kegam Kavafyan to 1924 and opened as the first music theater on the Anatolian side of Constantinople on March 6, 1927. However, there music theater works have been performed due to improper and inadequate stage technology never. The building was instead used initially as a playhouse and from 1930 to 2005 under the name Süreyya Sineması as a cinema. 2006-2007 the building underwent a renovation and on 14 December 2007 as an opera house ( Süreyya Opereti ) and concert hall reopened.

Owner of the Sureyya Opera House is the Darüssafaka Association, which leased the building to the Municipality Kadıköy. Operator is the Istanbul State Opera State Ballet. The house has a capacity of 570 seats.
