Surfside is a town in Miami -Dade County in the U.S. state of Florida with 5,744 inhabitants ( 2010).
Geography
Surfside is located on an island between Biscayne Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, about 5 km as the crow northeast of Miami. Adjacent municipalities are Bal Harbour, Bay Harbor Islands, Indian Creek and Miami Beach.
Demographics
According to the 2010 census, the then 5,744 inhabitants distributed to 3,890 households. The population density was 4418.5 inh. / Km ². 94.6 % of the population were white, 1.3% African American, 0.1% Native American and 1.3% Asian Americans. 1.0% were members of other ethnic groups and 1.7% in different ethnic groups. 46.5 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino.
In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 40.1 % of all households lived in 23.3 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 58.3 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.20 persons and the average family size was 2.87 persons.
20.0 % of the population were younger than 20 years, 21.0% were 20-39 years old, 27.8 % were 40-59 years old and 31.4 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 46 years. 47.1 % of the population were male and 52.9 % female.
The average annual income was $ 76,741, while 15.1 % of the population lived below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 42.40 % of the population spoke Spanish 49.10 % and 8.50% had a different mother tongue.
Traffic
Due to the metropolitan area leads the Florida State Road A1A. On the northern outskirts of the Florida State Road 922 branches off to Bay Harbor Islands. The nearest airports are Opa- locka Executive Airport the (national, 15 km away) and Miami International Airport ( 25 km).
Crime
The crime rate in 2010 was 216 points ( U.S. average: 266 points ) within the average range. There was a rape, two robberies, ten injuries, 19 burglaries, 131 thefts and four car thefts.
