Suriname at the Olympics

Umbrella organization of the Olympic movement in Suriname is the Surinaams Olympic Comité (SOC ). The SOC was established in 1959 and still acknowledged during his session in Munich in the same year by the International Olympic Committee.

Participations

Suriname participated for the first time in 1960 at the Olympic Summer Games in Rome. The only athlete who traveled Siegfried Esajas, a 800 - meter runner, but overslept his start. Since 1968 Suriname was represented with all but one of the Olympic Summer Games. For the Games in 1980 the SOC initially accepted the invitation to Moscow but then quickly withdrew his yes and joined the Olympic boycott of most Western nations.
