Surrey Quays railway station

Surrey Quays is an underground station on the London Overground (up to 2007 London Underground) in the London Borough of Southwark. It is located in the Travelcard Zone 2 at the junction of Lower Road and Redriff Road. In the year 2011 there were 1.15 million passengers served by the East London Line station.

History

After the opening of the station on December 7, 1869 initially led the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway, a connection between its network and the East London Line had at New Cross Gate, the passenger transport. On December 1, 1884 took the Metropolitan Railway (MR, now the Metropolitan Line) and the Metropolitan District Railway (MDR, now the District Line ) underground operation on. In the first three decades was the Deptford Road Station, on 17 July 1911 he was given the new designation Surrey Docks, a reference to the nearby Surrey Commercial Docks.

The MDR ceased its activities on 31 July 1905, the MR, so that the route temporarily served only to freight on 2 December 1906. As of March 31, 1913 sailed features of MR again the now electrified East London Line. Since the closure of the connecting curve St Mary 's Curve at White Chapel on 5 October 1941, the East London Line was operationally independent. Since October 24, 1989 called the Surrey Quays station, named after the shopping center, which opened in the same year. This renaming initially met with criticism, because many locals were of the opinion their traditions would be wiped out. However, the name prevailed rapidly and the area around the former Surrey Docks is now generally known as Surrey Quays.

Between 25 March 1995 and 25 March 1998, the entire route was closed due to renovation and modernization work for all traffic. On 22 December 2007, the East London Line was closed again in order to modernize them and extend at both ends. Since 27 April 2010, the route is two and a half years of construction, open again and a part of London Overground. On December 9, 2012, the opening of a 2.5 -kilometer link was followed to Queens Road Peckham railway station on the South London Line; by trains can run up to Clapham Junction.
