Geography

The County is located in northwestern North Carolina, bounded on the north Virginia and has an area of ​​1393 square kilometers, of which 3 square miles is water area. History

Surry County was formed in 1770 from parts of Rowan County. It was named after the eponymous County in England, the birthplace of William Tryon, Governor of North Carolina from 1765 to 1771.
