Surte

Surte is a Swedish Tätort in the municipality of Ale. The southwestern Swedish town lies about 15 kilometers north of Gothenburg.

History and Transport

Surte has grown together with the northern neighboring Bohus. Since the 14th century were the two places together with the environment to Denmark. In the Peace of Roskilde, the region fell to Sweden. Then it belonged until 1998 to the province of Göteborgs och Bohus Lan, before it was dissolved and incorporated in Västra Götaland County.

Surte, located on the road between Gothenburg and Trollhättan 45 and European Route 6 between Gothenburg and Kungälv. The village lies on the west bank of the river Göta älv, which was blocked in September 1950 by a landslide.

Sports

The place is home to the Bandyvereins Ale Surte BK. The well-known formerly as Surte BK club played several years in the highest Swedish league, and listed as the most successful semi-finals at the national championship in 1981.
