The Surxondaryo ( Cyrillic Сурхондарё, also Surkhandarya or Surkhandarya ) is a river in Uzbekistan. He is a right tributary of the Amu Darya.

Course

The river is formed at the confluence of its two source rivers Tupalangdarja ( Topatangdaryo ) and Karatag ( Qoratag ) near the border with Tajikistan, about 50 kilometers west of the Tajik capital, Dushanbe. The headwaters originate in the southern slopes of Hissargebirges. It flows in direction southsouthwest to Termez, where it flows into the Amudaryo after 175 kilometers towards the border of Uzbekistan to Afghanistan. Its catchment area of 13,500 km ² located in the Tajik region Nohijahoi tobei Dschumhurij and in the Uzbek province Surxondaryo, which was named after the river.
