Susan Auch

Susan Auch ( born March 1, 1966 in Winnipeg, Manitoba ) was a successful Canadian speed skater. Today she works as a real estate agent in Calgary, Alberta.

The father, Eberhard, too, comes from the Rems -Murr-Kreis, the mother ( Rosemarie Also, nee Kern) from Emmen things ( Breisgau). The parents emigrated in the 1950s and 1960s to Canada. Even as children were Susan and her two siblings active in sports. They started first with short track speed skating, however, then switched to speed skating. In Winnipeg, there was no ice rink, therefore had to be trained outdoors on frozen lakes. The reward for the early activity turned out to Susan, with the qualification in the short track speed skating for the Olympic Winter Games in Calgary in 1988. There she won the bronze medal in the team pursuit.

In 1989 she moved from Winnipeg ( Manitoba ) to Calgary to better train can. After several Canadian national championships in the sprint then took place in 1992 to participate in the Winter Games in Albertville ( France). She was sixth in the 500 -meter sprint. Her brother Derrick was fourth in the qualification of men and missed qualifying for the Olympics is only just. Followed in 1994 then in Lillehammer another Olympic medal. She won silver in the 500 -meter sprint before Franziska Schenk and after Bonnie Blair with a time of 39.61 s four years later, at the Olympic Winter Games in Nagano (Japan), they won the second huge success of her career, when again the silver medal jumped out (before Tomomi Okazaki and after her teammate Catriona LeMay Doan - ). Also in 1999 declared their withdrawal from competitive skating. Later, however, she decided nevertheless to participate in the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and therefore took part in five Olympics. After these games, she finished her career final and in 2004 was the mother of twins.
