Susan Bassnett

Susan Bassnett ( Susan Bassnett - McGuire, born 1948 ) is a British translation scholar and university professor. She is vice-rector at the University of Warwick and founded in 1980, the Centre for Translation and Comparative Cultural Studies, to which she also taught until its closure in 2009. Throughout her career, she has published more than 20 books, some of which form an important support for the translation of science.

Life

Susan Bassnett came already during her childhood with many languages ​​in contact. Since she was born in England, she first learned the English language. Later, however, her family moved to Denmark, making Danish became her second language. Then she moved to Portugal, where she learned Portuguese. Then she went for her studies in Italy and learned Italian. There she began her career after their first degree. She has taught at various universities around the world, including universities in the U.S., before they came to the University of Warwick, where it acts as a professor of comparative literature until today. In 2007, she was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. By his own testimony was her first publication was a translation, they have never had the intention to work as a translator.
