Susan Solomon

Susan Solomon ( born 1956 in Chicago) is an American chemist atmosphere. She works for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric the United States and was honored for her work in 1999 with the National Medal of Science.

Life

Solomon received her bachelor's degree in 1977 at the Illinois Institute of Technology and received his PhD in 1981 from the University of California, Berkeley. In 1985 she was awarded the James B. Macelwane Medal.

In the years 1986 and 1987, Solomon was director of the research project " National Ozone Expedition" in the Antarctic McMurdo Station. In the course of this research, they had one of the first to the link between chlorofluorocarbons materials and the ozone hole. Their work was one of the foundations for the Montreal Protocol, in recognition of an Antarctic glacier in 1994 was named after her.

Because of their researches Solomon was appointed to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. In 2007, she was involved as Co - Chair of Working Group I " The Physical Science Basis " in a position of responsibility in the preparation of the Fourth Assessment Report.
