Susanne Riesch

Susanne Riesch ( born December 8, 1987 in Garmisch -Partenkirchen ) is a German alpine skier. She is the sister of Maria Hoefl - Riesch and belongs to the B-team of the German Ski Association (DSV ) to.

Biography

Riesch denied her first FIS races at the age of 15 years. Since February 2004, she walks in the European Cup at the start. Also in February 2004, she participated in the Junior World Championships in Maribor, Slovenia, and was 17th in the slalom. In March 2005, Riesch suffered a torn ACL. In 2006, she became German Junior Champion in slalom.

After a first sporadic use at the World Cup slalom in Ofterschwang in February 2006, in which she, however, failed to qualify for the second round, they advanced to the 2006/07 season final at the German World Cup squad. Right at the start of the season they went in the Finnish Levi slalom surprising to fifth place. Riesch took part in the 2007 World Championships in Åre and at the 2009 World Championships in Val d'Isere in the slalom, but different in each case in the first round of.

At the beginning of the 2009/10 season reached Riesch in the slalom in Levi and Aspen fourth place respectively. 13 December 2009 she became the third of the slalom in Åre, the first podium finish in the World Cup. The second, she reached on the 3rd January 2010 at the slalom in Zagreb, where she was third again. She qualified by these good results for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, where she started in slalom and hoped to win a medal. In the season 2010/11 Rieschs best World Cup result was a fourth place in the first slalom in Levi. In the slalom World Cup they dropped back to 13. At the World Cup 2011 in her hometown of Garmisch- Partenkirchen she was disqualified in the second slalom passage after they had finished the first race in twelfth position. In September 2011, Riesch suffered during downhill training in Chile a broken left shin bone, a torn ACL and a meniscus injury. They therefore had to miss the entire 2011/12 season. Due to the severity of the injury she could not return to the World Cup in the 2012/13 season.

In the 2013/14 season they had their comeback in November 2013 but had to be re- operated on knee. The qualification for the 2014 Olympics in Sochi succeeded Riesch not in their favorite slalom discipline.

Riesch is a niece of Bobfahrers Wolfgang Zimmerer.
