Susch

Susch ( [ suʃ ] / i;? German and until 1943 officially south ) is a municipality in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. It belongs to the district of Sur Tasna in the district of Inn.

The coat of arms depicts three former fortifications on the hills at Susch dar. It is the simplification of a seal of the municipality.

Geography

Susch located in the Lower Engadine at the foot of Flüelapass, close to the Swiss National Park. The municipality is 93.35 km ² large.

Languages

The everyday language in Susch is the Grison Romanesque idiom Vallader. Already in the 19th century was a minority over to the German language. Gifts in 1880 74 % of residents Romansh as their native language, they were still 71% in 1900. But then came a renaissance of the Romansh language: 1941 gave 81 % Romansh as their language. Since 1980, a limited language changes to German takes place. Community and school are the pillars of Romansh. In 1990 86 % and in 2000 85 % were able to communicate in Romansh.

Religions and denominations

The citizens of the community Susch changed in 1550 to the Protestant faith.

Traffic

The village is accessed Susch railway technically from the same station on the railway line Pontresina - Scuol- Scuol -Samedan of the Rhaetian Railway (RhB). On the territory of the municipality lies Susch also the Sagliains station at the south portal of the Vereinatunnel. In Sagliains is the car loading of Vereinatunnel.

Economy

In 2010 was opened in Susch the Clinica Holistica Engadine.
