Sustainable Energy for All

Sustainable Energy for All ( SE4ALL, dt Sustainable Energy for All ) is a global initiative of the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki -moon, the goal is to improve access to energy supply, increase energy efficiency and the share of renewable energies in to increase global energy mix. The initiative was established as part of the International Year of Sustainable Energy for All by a resolution of the UN General Assembly in December 2010.

Background

By Resolution 65/151 of the UN General Assembly, which was adopted on 20 December 2010, the year 2012 was designated as the International Year of Sustainable Energy for All. This should be advised of the importance of energy for economic development and climate change. It was also recognized in this way that energy an important role on the way to achieving the Millennium Development Goals - which themselves do not refer to energy supply - plays.

Ban Ki -moon declared sustainable energy supply as one of its five priorities during his second term. In June 2009, he founded the Advisory Group of the Secretary-General for Energy and Climate Change ( AGECC ), which published its first report on 28 April 2010. The recommendations of this report form the basis for the establishment of the Sustainable Energy for All initiative in 2011.

Objectives

The Sustainable Energy for All initiative would guide the private and public decision-makers to achieve three goals together in 2030:

  • Providing access to modern energy services for all
  • Doubling the rate of improvement in energy efficiency
  • Doubling the share of renewables in the energy mix
