Sutherland Falls

The Sutherland Falls ( German: Sutherlandfälle ) are among the highest waterfalls in New Zealand. You are on the South Island in Fiordland National Park, a nature reserve on the south and west side of the South Island. Although often referred to as " the highest waterfalls in New Zealand ", the Sutherlandfälle are depending on the calculation basis 39 m to 256 m lower than the Browne Falls.

The Sutherlandfälle are at the beginning of the Valley of the Waterfalls, a displacement section of the Milford Track, wandering through usually on the second and third day. Access to the Milford Track is limited to 40 people per day, and can only be traversed in one direction at fixed stations. With a height of 580 m the Sutherlandfälle a sight are especially after rains. The water falls down over several steps and lands in a natural rock tub, which is only a few meters deep. The resulting spray enough on the ground almost 100 m wide and makes it nearly impossible to reach down to the rock tub. It is possible height difference to go behind the waterfall after a three-day hike over 40 km at about 1400 meters. From the last stage of Sutherlandfälle itself provides the views of nearly 400 m deep falling water.
