Sutomore

Sutomore (Cyrillic Сутоморе; Venezisch: Spizza ) is a small coastal town in the large village Bar, Montenegro. It has 1827 inhabitants.

History

Sutomore Spizza was called, as it is part of Venetian Albania 1420-1797 was part of the Venetian Republic and following, except in the short time of the Turkish occupation. From 1879 to 1918, the town belonged to the Kingdom of Dalmatia as a southern municipality within Austria - Hungary. The Austrian census of 1910 reported that there were Venezisch speaking families in Spizza at the beginning of the 20th century.

Today

Sutomore is well known for its two -kilometer-long beach today. Low prices - compared with the adjacent Budva - along with the easy access of the railway Belgrade - Bar make the city a popular destination of tourists that populate the sutomore strong especially in the summer months. The place is also the preferred destination for journeys of young people from Podgorica, as it is removed by the Sozina tunnel only half an hour by train or car.
