The Suwon World Cup Stadium, also known as " Big Bird Stadium", is a football stadium in the South Korean city of Suwon in the province of Gyeonggi-do.

History

The stadium was, how many stadiums in South Korea, especially for the Football World Cup 2002 built. Just one year before the World Cup, it was one of three South Korean game places the Confederations Cup 2001. 190 million -US-dollar sports facility was opened after the start of construction on 15 November 1996, on 13 May 2001. The nickname " Big Bird " got the stadium because of the roof structure of the back straight, reminiscent of the wings of a bird. It is the only stadium in South Korea, which was built with the help of voluntary donations of citizens. The names and addresses of the dispenser are engraved on the backs of the seats.

Since 2001 it is the home of the Suwon Samsung Blue Wings, a franchise of the K League Classic, the highest football league in South Korea.
