Career
Suzanne Vega was born in Santa Monica in the U.S. state of California. Her mother moved in with her a year after her birth, to New York, where Suzanne grew up in East Harlem and on the Upper West Side. At the age of nine she began to write poetry; she wrote her first song at the age of 14 years.
