Sväng

Sväng [ s'väη ] is a Finnish harmonica quartet.

History

The group was founded at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, as Eero Turkka a project needed for an exam in composition and improvisation. With Eero Grundström, another student of the Academy, and Jouko Kyhälä, the first graduates of Finland, who had a doctorate in the subject harmonica, and bass harmonica player Pasi Leino, he studied one composed by him, based on Romanian folk music Suite one. Due to the success of this project, group Sväng in 2003 (Swedish: curve ) was founded. Soon came the first foreign tours, in 2005, the first CD of the group Sväng appeared. 2007 Sväng were sent as a representative of Finland to the World Music Expo. 2008, the second CD the group Jarruta appeared.

Music

The music of Sväng has a wide range of styles. The original compositions and arrangements of traditional pieces of Polka, Country Music, Finnish tango, ragtime, music of the gypsy and folk music of the Balkans, as well as influences of jazz and rock. The electrically amplified and distorted with effects devices such as distortion pedals sound here is an essential style element and expanded the expressive possibilities of the instruments.
