At the Sports University in Cologne, he acquired the license as a football teacher, classmates were, among others Olaf Thon and Jürgen Klopp. Since summer 2008, he coached youth teams of Borussia Mönchengladbach. On 1 July 2010 he took over with assistant coach Adrian Spyrka the U23 Borussia Mönchengladbach.

His active times, especially in the Fortuna Düsseldorf and Mainz 05, where the " refrigerator " said striker with 55 goals leads the internal second league scoring charts, Demandt cult status enjoyed by his fans because of his seemingly bumbling and stumbling way to play football - not least because he scored many goals despite his supposedly limited technical possibilities.
