Sverre Bruland

Bruland was a student of Per Steenberg, Karl Andersen, Odd Grüner - Hegge, Igor Markevitch, Paul van Kempen, he studied at the Juilliard School in New York (1949 /50) and at the Mozarteum in Salzburg.

1945/46, he began his career as a trumpeter at the Band of the 2nd Division in Oslo and the Oslo Philharmonic, where he worked for the next twenty years. He debuted in 1954 as the orchestra conductor ibid. Bruland 1966 Kapellmeister of the NRC. From 1976 to 1988 he was chief conductor of the Radio Orchestra. He shifted it towards the repertoire more to classical music.

Bruland, 1958 in Liverpool won the first prize in the international Dirigiermeisterschaft; also 1959 Conducting Prize from Tanglewood, USA. He conducted two times the Berliner Philharmoniker with programs with Norwegian music.
