Sveti Filip i Jakov

Sveti Filip i Jakov (Italian Santi Filippo e Giacomo ) is a municipality in Croatia in the Zadar County

Location and population

Sveti Filip i Jakov is located 3 km northwest of Biograd na Moru and 25 km south of Zadar. The municipality is situated on the coast opposite the island of Pasman.

The municipality consists of the six places Donje Raštane, Gornje Raštane, Sikovo, Sveti Filip i Jakov, Sveti Petar na Moru and Turanj and has 4,606 inhabitants, of which only 1,667 in the main town of Sveti Filip i Jakov live ( 2011 census ).

History

The village was in the time when it was still Yugoslavia was the name Filipjakov in order to remove the religious origin. in the 12th century, the small Church of St. Philip and Jacob ( Sveti Filip i Jakov ) was destroyed. From this church the place got its name. Today, the community thrives on tourism.
