Sveti Marko Island

The island Školj (also Sveti Marko, Stradioti ) is the largest island in the Bay of Kotor and next to the flower island and Gospa od milosti one of the three islands in the Bay of Tivat, also known as Krtoljski Archipelago.

In the Middle Ages the island Sveti Gavrilo was (Eng. "Saint Gabriel " ), after a Nemanjic Foundation, the Orthodox monastery of the same name. During the Venetian rule, the island was given the name Stradioti, according to a barracks Venetian soldiers of Greek origin, the stradiotes. From 1968 to 1990 was located on the island of the attractive holiday complex Sveti Marko, from which the present name of the island derives.
