Svetislav Pešić

Svetislav Pešić ( Serbian Cyrillic Светислав Пешић; born August 28, 1949 in Novi Sad, Yugoslavia ) is a German - Serbian basketball coach and former player. Since November 2012, he coached the Bundesliga club Bayern Munich.

Career

As a player Pešić achieved his greatest successes in KK Bosna Sarajevo, with whom he became in 1978 the Yugoslav League and Cup winners and 1979 European Cup Winners ' Cup.

After his career as a player Pešić was in season 1981/82 first sports director at KK Bosna. From 1982 to 1987 he coached the club with which he had already worked as a player. In 1983 he as coach of Yugoslav champion and 1984 Cup winner was. At the same time he trained in those years Yugoslav youth national teams. After previous EM victories was won under his direction in 1987, the U-19 World Basketball Championship. With this triumph, for the first time an American selection was defeated under the same conditions as the defeats of U.S. seniors choosing teams at Basketball World Championships and Olympic games before without the participation of NBA professionals came about.

After these successes the German Basketball Federation signed him as a coach. In this role Pešić led the German basketball team on winning the surprising Eurobasket 1993, the first international title of a German Senior selection.

From 1993 to Pešić was head coach at Alba Berlin. Here he won the Korac Cup, which was also the first international title of a German club team in the second year of his obligation. In addition, ALBA was under his direction in the following years four times German champion and twice Cup winners.

In 2000 Pešić left Berlin and coached the national team of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia from 2001 simultaneously with the Rhein Energie Cologne. He was with the national team again in 2001 European Champion and 2002 World Champion.

There were other engagements with European top clubs like FC Barcelona (2002-2004), with whom he won the 2003 Triple consisting of championship, national cup and Euro League. He then worked at Lottomatica Rome (2004-2006), Akasvayu Girona ( 2006/ 07), with whom he won the FIBA EuroCup, Dynamo Moscow ( 2007/ 08) and Red Star Belgrade (2008/ 09). From November 2010 was Pešić Coach of ULEB Eurocup winner Valencia Basket Club, with whom he 2010/11 in five games was eliminated in the quarter-finals of ULEB Euro League against national rivals Real Madrid. For the season 2011/12 he returned to the new merger club from Red Star and KK KK FMP Železnik back to Belgrade, which should form a counterpoint to the dominant Serbian series champions KK Partizan Belgrade.

From the summer of 2012 Pešić again took over - for now parallel to his job in Belgrade - the German national team of men as national coach. Following the successful qualification for the European Championship, he extended his contract with the German Basketball Federation not, but entered on 27 November 2012, the successor of Yannis Christopoulos as head coach of FC Bayern Munich, where he received a contract until the end of season. In March 2013 his contract was extended for another two years ahead of schedule.
