Svetozar Marović

Svetozar Marović (Cyrillic Светозар Маровић; born March 31, 1955 in Kotor, Yugoslavia ) was the first and only President of the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro and Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Serbia and Montenegro. He is married and has two children.

He was elected on March 7, 2003. He studied in Titograd law and worked as a lawyer. He was in 1990 a member of the Montenegrin Parliament and since then three times President of the Parliament.

He co-founded the Democratic Party of Socialists of Montenegro, which occurred last also for the independence of Montenegro.

On 10 September 2003, he asked the name of his country in Croatia for the atrocities during the war, sorry. Croatian President Stjepan Mesic thanked for their fair gesture and asked the same day also on behalf of Croatia to apologize. This happened during the visit of Croatian President in the Serbian capital Belgrade.

On 13 November 2003 visited Marović Bosnia and Herzegovina. There he asked in the same way and in the Bosnian population in the name of his country for the inconvenience. Although the responses to this surprising gesture were positive, but there was no apology from the Bosnian side for the committed crimes against Serbs. This was disappointing, then reported Bosnian and Serbian media and criticized. Marović was then at a press conference announced that Serbia and Montenegro will not take by these official excuses to blame the Balkan conflict in itself, but only admit to their own mistakes, and expect that these " Bosniak " from the side would also be admitted.

Marovic resigned on 4 June 2006 by his office after his native Montenegro had previously declared its sovereignty on the day due to the independence referendum of 21 May and had thereby sealing the dissolution of the state.

On 5 October 2006 Marović announced that he would take no State function in Montenegro more. He will however retain his post as vice president of the Democratic Party of Socialists until the next Congress.
