Svrčinovec

Svrčinovec (Hungarian Fenyvesszoros - to 1899 Szvrcsinovecz, Polish Świerczynowiec ) is a municipality in Slovakia.

Location

The municipality is located in the north of Slovakia south-west to the borders Slovakia - Czech Republic - Poland under the Jablunkapass on the banks of the river Čierňanka in the region Kysuca. The nearby towns are the county seat Čadca in the south, Čierne in the east and in the Czech Republic Mosty u Jablunkova in the north.

Although the municipality is administratively divided, there are many individual farms / small settlements (Slovak Kopanice ) to the actual place around.

Population

According to the 2001 census, the town had 3,382 inhabitants. these were:

  • 98.29 % Slovaks
  • 0.98% Czechs
  • 0.06 % gypsy
  • 0.03 % Magyars
  • 0.03 % Poland.

The predominant religion is with 97.37 % Roman Catholic, about 0.98 % have no commitment.

History

The first written mention was made in 1658 as Walachensiedlung. 1871, the route of the Košice- Berger railway was built and the place got a rail connection. Until 1918 it belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary in Trenčín county and later to the newly formed Czechoslovakia. 1938 Poland annexed the village together with the Olsa territory, but it was from 1939 again part of Slovakia.

Economy and Transport

The place is located in the euro area Beskydy and together with Čierne and Skalité the Mikroregión Kysucký Triangle ( Kischützer triangle).

Svrčinovec is a railway junction, since the railway line Žilina - Bohumín runs through the village to the Czech Republic and the route branches off on Skalité to Bielsko - Biala in Poland in place. In addition, the community provides a road junction represents the main road I/11 leads to the Czech Republic and the main road I/12 (E 75) the direction of Poland.
