On November 1, 2009 the aerodrome, the operating license from the Namibian Directorate of Civil Aviation ( Civil Airport Authority) has been withdrawn and to which it has actually closed.

On 15 March 2011 the High Court has complied with the request of the city in Swakopmund and asked the tenant to vacate.

The airfield was legally closed by withdrawal of the license on November 1, 2009. In April 2012, this closure was finally decided by the Directorate of Civil Aviation and locked the airfield for all traffic. In mid-May 2012, the airfield after a runway was rehabilitated on the initiative of the airlines, the airport reopened.
