Swalmen

( Listen? / I ) Swalmen, Limburg Zjwame (pronounced " Schwame " soft "sh" ), is a district of Roermond in the Dutch province of Limburg. Swalmen between the Meuse and the parallel to her German border; neighboring German town is Brüggen.

The village Swalmen is named after the river Schwalm (Dutch Swalm ), which, coming from Germany, opens on Swalmener area in the River Meuse.

History

The place was first mentioned in the Middle Ages, in the 11th and 12th centuries as Sualmo to about 1200 as Sualmum and 1239 Swalmene.

The community Swalmen has been incorporated into the beginning of 2007 in the neighboring town of Roermond. She counted 8,826 inhabitants (as of 1 August 2006) and extended over an area of ​​22.96 km ² (of which 1.42 km ² water surface ).
