Swamp Francolin

The Swamp Francolin ( Francolinus gularis ) is a species of the genus of Frankoline from the family of pheasant -like ( Phasianidae ). Due to the destruction of its natural habitat and intensive hunting the swamp francolin is threatened with extinction. Therefore, it is protected by law for some years.

Appearance

The Swamp Francolin is about 37 cm tall and has a bright, reddish brown throat. Its plumage has fine stripes on the top and thick white stripe on the abdomen. His reputation consists of a long series of sharp tones that will sound every eight seconds.

Dissemination

The Swamp Francolin lives in the catchment area of the Ganges and Brahmaputra. It is native to Bangladesh, India and Nepal. In Nepal, however, live only about 500 birds. He prefers large wet grasslands, but also come to terms with sugarcane plantations and rice fields. Although he lives mainly in the lowlands, but prefers to flood times to higher ground back.
