Swansea RFC

The Swansea Rugby Football Club is a rugby union club that plays in the Welsh Premier Division. The home games are played at St Helens Rugby and Cricket Ground. The team occurs traditionally in white jerseys and is therefore also known under the name "The All Whites ". The club owns 50 % of the Ospreys, one of the four Welsh provincial teams in the Celtic League.

History

The " All Whites " were founded in 1872 as a football club and switched to rugby in 1874. The first Game of the club on November 28, 1874 against the Llandovery College. 1875 closed one with the local cricket club for Swansea Cricket & Football Club together. The current name of Swansea RFC was formed in the wake of the professionalisation of rugby in 1995. The club was one of the eleven founding clubs of the Welsh Rugby Union, which was created in 1881. First, the team entered in blue and white jerseys, for a season, she also wore red colors. In the 1920s, then came the traditional jersey, which consisted almost entirely of white.

In 1935, Swansea RFC, the first rugby club in the world who could beat the New Zealand national team. With this victory, it had also managed Swansea to defeat all three major rugby nations of the Southern Hemisphere. Previously they had beaten Australia (1908 ) and South Africa (1912). After the Second World War, the team was able to build on the success, Australia defeated again and managed a 6:6 draw against New Zealand in 1953.

Since the 1990s years the club has four times won the championship and was able to bring in two more cup wins. In 1992 he succeeded again to beat Australia, who were the reigning world champion at that time. In the season 1995/96 Swansea reached the semi-finals of the European Cup.

With the 2003/ 04 season, things changed for the Swansea RFC. The Welsh Rugby Union established regional teams that should compete in the Celtic League. These were brought together, among others, of Neath RFC and Swansea RFC and merged under the name Ospreys. Both clubs are 50 % of the new association.
