Swath width

With swath ( swath English ) is known in the remote sensing of the receiving strip of a satellite.

The swath width ( swath width English ) is measured on the surface perpendicular to the flight path in kilometers. It is inter alia dependent on the altitude and the geometrical resolution and size of the scanner unit.

Very high resolution satellite typically have a swath width 10-20 km, geostationary satellites usually cover almost an entire hemisphere.

The swath width is closely related to the repetition: the narrower the swath, the lower is the refresh rate to the rule.
