Swedish Confederation of Professional Associations

The central organization of Swedish academics (Swedish: Sveriges academician Central Organization ( SACO ) ) is the umbrella organization for the academic unions in Sweden. Its membership includes 26 individual unions. The SACO represents the interests of academics in Sweden, while workers in the federation LO and employees of the umbrella organization TCO are organized.

History

The first academic unions in 1943 was made ​​up of younger academics. In 1947 the governing body from SACO, which in 1975 joined the National Association of State employees. The number of members grew up in the last decades of strong and was on 1 January 2005 approximately 569,000.
