The election to the Swedish Parliament in 1973 took place on 16 September 1973.

Electioneering

The Social Democrats promoted from modernist - progressive and welfare state designs nuclear power. The traditionally agrarian Centre Party, however, focused on hand demands of the emerging environmental movement and tried increasingly to address urban voters and educated milieu.

Election result

With 43.6 per cent achieved the Socialists their worst result since 1932, but were able to keep up with a minority government led by Olof Palme (since 1969) in power. On the other hand put the Centre Party at 25.1 percent, their best result so far in the Reichstag elections. While the Conservatives made gains some votes and again the third largest party, were the Liberals had to insert the biggest losses.
